Boise River ReWild Project
The Golden Eagle Audubon Society has led the Boise River ReWild Project, restoring over 40 acres along the Boise River. This initiative focuses on removing invasive species, planting native vegetation, and enhancing wildlife habitats. Community volunteers play a crucial role in these restoration activities, demonstrating the power of collective action in environmental conservation.
Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge
Addressing urban heat and promoting green spaces, the City of Boise, in partnership with the Treasure Valley Canopy Network and The Nature Conservancy, launched the Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge. The goal is to plant 100,000 urban trees and 235,000 forest seedlings, mitigating the urban heat island effect and improving air quality. This ambitious project underscores the city’s dedication to combating climate change through community engagement.
Hawkins Range Reserve
Opened in May 2023, the Hawkins Range Reserve spans 393 acres in the Boise Foothills. Managed by the Ridge to Rivers Trail System partnership, it offers directional trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Seasonal closures from December 1 to April 30 protect critical wildlife habitats, highlighting the balance between recreation and conservation.
Boise’s Climate Action Roadmap
Recognizing the challenges posed by climate change, the City of Boise developed a Climate Action Roadmap. This strategic guide outlines actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance community resilience. It addresses hazards such as air quality, changing seasons, drought, extreme heat, and water quality, reflecting a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship.
These initiatives exemplify Boise’s proactive stance on environmental issues. Through collaborative efforts, the community continues to foster a sustainable and resilient environment for current and future generations.
